We fished all bank holiday weekend, each day getting slightly better than the day before.
Monday and Tuesday saw us travelling well off covering a lot of miles, to find clearer waters. We finally found it nearly 30 miles offshore. Both days saw us getting amoung the fish on shads. Both cod and ling into double figure this weekend, the biggest a belting ling of 26lb.
Craig and the lads from Network Rail came over from Manchester to sample the Whitby fishing. One of their party Graham, started nailing fish on bait as we approached slack water. We had all been catching steady on shads and bait and already boated cod and ling into double figures.
Just as the flood just started pushing (prime time for big crocs!) He hit into something better – He was using a 20/30 Daiwa Sea Hunter rod and slosh 30 multiplier – both kindly donated by Dawia earlier this year as part of our sponsorship.
It gave a good account of itself, Graham was grunting and groaning and after around 10 minutes we could see a decent fish flashing under the surface, I encouraged `it looks a good one down there mate, keep her coming steady’ then it broke surface I could tell it was well over 20lb.
We got it on the deck and after a good bit of back slapping we unhooked, weighed and photographed it.
