Whitby Wreck Fishing Trips & General Charter Boat Trips

Mistress runs charter boat trips out of Whitby all year round.
The excellent hard ground and abundance of wrecks off the coast of Whitby mean that our charter boat operations can run 12 months a year, with a choice of angling methods depending on the season.

In the Winter months we generally run uptiding charters, which concentrate on the ground close to Whitby and near to villages such as Sandsend, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Kettleness.

These trips generally sail at 7.30am and have you back in port at 4.30pm.
It should be noted that our Winter mooring is opposite The Middle Earth Tavern on Church Street (postcode YO22 4AE) and anglers should be here between 7-7.15am so I can let you onto the pontoon (Which is locked).

As far as tackle is concerned, most beach and shore anglers will already have the terminal tackle needed for these trips but if not then Whitby Angling Supplies on Church Street can supply you with leads, hooks, line and bait .
If you require hire rods and reels then we have top of the range Daiwa uptiding rods and reels available- please state your requirements at the time of booking.
These trips are less energetic than the wreck and ground fishing so lend themselves perfectly to young anglers, families, the more mature angler or simply shore anglers who fancy catching some cod for a change!

From Early Spring through to Late Autumn we try and get out on the wrecks, reefs and ground out of Whitby.
These trips see us catching cod, pollock, ling, haddock, mackerel, gurnard, catfish (woof) and the occasional halibut.
Whitby wreck fishing can be very productive with large bags of fish that include some of the bigger specimens.
We have had cod to over 20lb, ling over 30lb, pollock to the near 20's and halibut to over 50lb!
We use a variety of tactics including soft lures such as shads, Sidewinders, Redgills and jellyworms for cod and pollock while ling, catfish, haddock and halibut are generally caught on bait. The size of the bait depends on the species- ling need a good fillet or half fillet of mackerel, while haddock just love thin slivers of squid.
As always, I will offer you guidance and advice on the day to ensure your fish box fills up nicely.

Again, top of the range Daiwa tackle is available with Kenzaki rods and Saltist reels loaded with braid always on board. This is premium kit that won't let you down!

As far as timings go, in the Spring-Autumn months we generally sail at 7am and return for 5pm. This might seem a long day but it flies by.

These trips pick up at 6.45am and drop off at 5pm at the pontoon opposite The Angel Hotel (Wetherspoons) so parking in the Dock End or Marina is a good option.
Another good option is to get a brilliant breakfast at The Singing Kettle as this is seconds away from the pontoon.
